Jonathon “Joni”
Kristofer Lopez
April 10, 2000–March 27, 2026
Jonathon “Joni” Kristofer Lopez was born in Tampa, Florida, on April 10, 2000. He served in the United States Air Force, became a Senior Airman, and earned two medals for meritorious service. His service took him to Spangdahlem, Germany, and later to Las Vegas, Nevada. At Creech Air Force Base, he served as an Information Systems Security Officer.
Joni loved basketball, volleyball, ping pong, poker, and bachata. He brought a competitive spirit to the things he enjoyed. His family remembers him as affectionate, kind, intelligent, and protective of those he loved. He showed his care through what he did.
That care extended to his fellow airmen. His commander remembered Joni as someone who helped others without expecting recognition. He made time for people and understood the value of being present.
The Joni Project honors his life by sharing what he loved and carrying forward his care for others.
Scholarship
Senior Airman Jonathon Lopez Memorial Scholarship
Created in Jonathon’s memory, the scholarship supports members of the military community pursuing education and careers in cybersecurity and technology.
CyRoot Academy, a separate nonprofit organization, administers the scholarship and publishes current eligibility, timing, and application details.
Legacy in action. Jonathon’s family was informed that two scholarships had been awarded.
